IPL Venue move to U.K. or South Africa
India’s Indian Premier League(IPL) matches may be moved to the U.K. or South Africa to avoid domestic security concerns, the Press reported, without saying where it got the information.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) took the decision to relocate the 45-day twenty20 tournament overseas after authorities said they couldn’t guarantee security because the event clashes with national elections.
India earlier this month asked the Indian Premier League to redraw its cricket match schedule because of fears over safety as it coincided with the national and state elections. The tournament runs from April 10-May 24, while elections will be held between April 16-May 13.
The Indian Premier League tournament is estimated to be worth about 100 billion rupees ($1.97 billion) in television broadcast rights and sponsorships.
