India also has the luxury of Playing its first choice XI unlike many other teams. With Sehwag and Sachin looking in prime form against Bangladesh, and the determination Sehwag one can only understand how badly this team wants to perform in the World Cup. With this being Sachin’s last world cup, the expectation and dreams are high within the team as well. With Gambhir and Dhoni being as consistent as always, inclusion of fabulous Kohli makes this batting order one of the best India had in the recent years. Strangely the two players who have performed extremely well in the past are the concern area before the match, Sreesanth and Yuvraj. Sreesanth looked ordinary against Bangladesh , but it remains to be seen will Dhoni replace him with Nehra/Piyush Chawla. On the England front this is a big [...]

The BCCI has sent show cause notice to seven Indian players who were involved in the pub clash at St Lucia on the day when India was knocked out of the ICC World T20. Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Rohit Sharma, Piyush Chawla, Ravindra Jadeja and Murali Vijay have been given one week time to explain their role in the pub incident and why the board should not take disciplinary action against them. Out of the seven players, four of them will be touring Zimbabwe for the upcoming tri-series. 8 players had gone to the pub early in the evening when some of the fans inside started mocking at one of the players. Unable to bear that, the others have gone to rescue but it resulted in clash.

Indians would be on prayers as they would hope the same sort of miracle that happened on Monday. They have to beat Srilanka and that too by a margin and then hope Australia beat West Indies. India is back to their favourite ground st Lucia where they beat Afghanisthan and SouthAfrica but still Srilanka too would have a liking to this ground.Though the Other possibility of Australia beating westindies looks a bit easier the far difficult task is at hand for India. India have to beat srilanka by 20 runs or more if they bat first and if they chase say they have to score 160 in 17.4 overs.Srilanka looks formidable with Jayawardene and Sangakkara both in terrific form particularly Jayawardene who has just one failed outing in the tournament against Australia.Srilanka though would be a bit more disappointed the way they came a cropper against Australia holding out for low 87 runs. One more advantage India would have is the experience of playing in st Lucia whereas Srilanka have not played here and played in a rank turner in Guyana.st Lucia is a bit different as it aids both spin as well as good bounce and carry for the seamers.Indian [...]

Pakistan made 148 after a disappointing start with good hittings from Umar Akmal and Afridi. And then restricted SouthAfrica to 137 runs thanks to some tight bowling from Abdur Rehman,Afridi and Ajmal.Ajmal picked up 4 wickets and Rehman 2 wickets.Man of the Match went to Umar Akmal who scored 51 off 33 balls with able support from Kamran(37) and Afridi(30).SouthAfrica kept losing wickets regularly as only AB Devilliers hit 53 off 41 balls with no support from the other end.Pakistan are now through to the semifinals and they stand a great chance of making to the finals as both the semifinals would be played in st.Lucia and they have great depth in spinners as well as the batsmen gets effective with the pace and bounce missing as it was in Barbados.

Jayawardena seems to be in sublime touch as he scored an unbeaten 98 which follows an 80 and a century in the previous 2 matches of this tournament.Sangakkara gave him able support with a quickfire 68.The good thing to happen in India’s favour is one team has beaten the other convincingly better and that too much better than Australia. Hope it do not come to the net runrate situation in this group as it would neither favour India or WestIndies with kind of losses that they have in their first match. It has come down to a knock out of one team in the Sunday’s Match as either India or WestIndies have no way back if they lose tomorrow’s match.

The old ghost came to haunt India yet again as they lost to Australia in their first super eight match rather tamely.Indians lost by 49 runs against Australia as they scored only 138 runs all out and that too in 17.5 overs in reply to a strong 184/5 by Australia.India would have been chasing around 220 as Australia was 145 in 15 overs but they held back Australia for 39 runs in the last 5 overs. It raised hopes of a fightback but it stopped the time the openers came to bat as Nannes and Tait was sending down thunderbolts to the other end of the pitch and all Indian batsmen were clueless.India lost 5 wickets within 40 runs and it all remained formality but for a face saving innings of unbeaten 79.Warner(72) and Watson(54) shined for Australia with the bat and Nannes(3/25) and Tait(3/21) shined with the ball. India does not look like a team that belong to this group and that too in this pitch in Barbados as they have a military medium attack with the ball and a feeble everlost batsmen and it requires a miracle to even get past WestIndies on Sunday.

This world cup is different from the last two in the sense that the strong 8 teams have made it to the Super 8.The Group E consist of England,Pakistan,New Zealand and South Africa. And the Group F can be termed the group of death as it consist of Australia,India,West Indies and Srilanka. The Group E matches commences today with England taking on Pakistan in the first match and South Africa taking on New Zealand in the second match. This is the most crucial phase of the tournament as there can be no guesses on the winners as in the first round with all the 8 teams capable of making to the semifinals. It can be said that Group F is far more stronger and tightly competent than the Group F. The first match has happened yesterday at Barbados and it seems to go by the reputation as the Pitch has lots of bounce and carry but for the advantage of the Indians it is also taking turn. The next 6 days would see riveting contest all the way in every match and it is a sight worth watching for every ardent cricket follower

Collingwood blasted the Duckworth Lewis Method of setting target in rain affected matches as they lost the game against WestIndies after scoring 191 runs batting first. He was right enough in saying that the first day when England batsman batted well to score 191 against a good west indian attack. And once rain came for two interruptions the target for westindies was set as 60 runs in 6 overs which seems a complete different equation with 10 wickets in hand. The second day his batsmen struggled to score 120 against a disciplined Ireland attack and rain again came to the rescue as Ireland would have fancied their chances with a small total on a good pitch and their Main stay Neil O Brein going well. But still Collingwood may not be completely right as D/L method always favour the team batting second and it is proven method for years in ODIs.The only thing that needs to be looked into it is how many overs are minimum required in the second innings of a T20 match.Five or Six overs seems to little and that is why these sort of weird target comes up

Indians have a tough road ahead as they head to face Australia,WestIndies and Srilanka in the next matches.India would face Australia and WestIndies at Barbados which is considered as one of the Quickest and Bounciest wickets in WestIndies. India face Australia this Friday on May 7 in Australia and WestIndies on May 9.They would face Srilanka at St.Lucia on May 11.India went into the Super Eight Stage at last year world Cup in a similar situation where they won both their group matches but lost all the three super 8 matches. But this time they have a victory against South Africa to show for, though they would have felt it would be an easier passage in the other group which might consist of South Africa,England,NewZealand and Pakistan. Indian batsman have to overcome their short pitched bowling blues which they had in England last year. The good thing to have happened is that Raina and Yuvraj seems to be in form and played the back of the length bowling from SouthAfrica very well.India have a tough opener in Australia who seem to have a battery of high pace [...]

South Africa have Smith and Kallis as their go to men in the batting department with good support by AB Devilliers and the ever reliable Mark Boucher.Their batting stars Gibbs and JP Duminy still looks to be circumspect and out of form.Bosman is another dynamite who can explode to surprise a few in this world cup. They have riches in the allrounder department with Morkel brothers and Kallis.Botha and Van de Merwe [...]

Australia looks pretty strong both in the batting and bowling department with an high speed pace bowlers in their lineup with Johnson,Tait and Nannes. All the three can bowl in the high 140′s or 150′s and can trouble the batsman in the air.Their spin bowling does not make ahuge reading with Hauritz and Steven Smith though Clarke and White would also be keeping themselves as slow bowling options.Tim Paine and Haddin are able keepers and smashing batters in their own right and either of them can be in their starting XI for this Australian team. And to say that they have a huge bench strength is very apt as a player of the calibre of Lee who is out with an injury in the last minute is replaced by Ryan Harris.Harris has proved himself for Australia in the home season [...]

The Srilankan Squad for the T20 worldcup in West Indies does not have too many surprises and Sanath Jayasuriya at 40 and contesting the elections and still playing cricket is the all too surprising story to tell. Kumar Sangakkara (Capt), Muttiah Muralitharan, Mahela Jayawardene, Sanath Jayasuriya, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Angelo Mathews, Thissera Perera, Suraj Randiv, Dinesh Chandimal, Nuwan Kulasekera, Lasith Malinga, Chinthaka Jayasinghe, Chamara Kapugedera, Ajantha Mendis, Chanaka Welegedera. Their batting looks strong with their ever reliable Captain Sangakkara and the former Captain Jayawardena in the Middle.Their top order is also strengthened by Dilshan.Jayasuriya has to fire as he has been long due in all forms of cricket.Matthews as a hardhitting lower order bat and a usefule medium pace bowler lends them the balance. The bowling attack remains the most potent with the three M’s Malinga,Murali and Mendis in the mix.The old wily Jayasuriya’s left armers is also useful in this form of the game as he proved that in the last worldcup.
Pakistan team have a great track record in the two T20 worldcups held so far in South Africa and in England. They were the runners up in the 2007 Edition and worthy champions in the 2009 Edition. The Pakistan T20 Squad captained by Shahid Afridi is as follows Muhammad Hafeez, Salman Butt, Khalid Latif, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, Fawad Alam, Umar Akmal, Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Irfan, Kamran Akmal, Saeed Ajmal, Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Aamer, Mohammad Sami, Hammad Azam. This Pakistan team is lagging behind in terms of experience, match practice and in form before the T20 Worldcup and though the same scenario can be said of them in the last edition, this time it looks far more severe than one thought. Mohammad Yusuf and Younis Khan has been pillar of Pakistan batting and the absence of Shoaib Malik too makes the batting department weak. The fulcrum of batting remains with the Akmal brothers with Afridi to support them.Salman Butt,Fawad Alam and the Veteran Misbah have more things to prove than what they have delivered. It could not get worser than this in the bowling department with Umar Gul getting injured in the last minute and replaced by Mohammad Sami.Gul has been the leading wicket taker in [...]
