Hero Honda Cup 2009: 7th ODI: India vs Australia

The final ODI between India and Australia in the Hero Honda Cup 2009 has been called off due to rain. The match was scheduled to be held at Mumbai and due to cyclone the match was abandoned.

This leaves Australia to grab the trophy with 4-2 lead.

Also India slipped down the ranking to third with wider gap. Australia tops the ICC ODI rankings and following them are the South Africa and India.

Sunday was a bad day for India who opted to bat first and finally lost the show to the touring team Australia in the 6th ODI of the Hero Honda Cup. With this victory, Australia has clinched the seven match series by 4-2.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and chose to bat first in the heavy weather conditions and the side suffered since the beginning as they lost the top batting order. They never got the time to recover and hence fell flat to the World Champions.
India managed to make 170 in 48 overs while the Australians chased down the target in 41.5 overs losing just 4 wickets.
From Australian side, Shane Watson (49), Ricky Ponting (25), Cameron White (25) helped for a good base while the match was completed by Michael Hussey (35 not out) and Adam Voges (23 not out).
Previously, India who opted to bat first were slumped to 27/5 in 9 overs and even a hundred looked far for the team.
Fortunately, Ravindra Jadeja (57) and Praveen Kumar (54 not out) pushed the score to 170 before they coiled.

Man of the match: Sachin Tendulkar

India lost the excellent chasing game against Australia by just 3 runs at Hyderabad in the Hero Honda cup. With this, it becomes a pressure for India to win the next two matches to take the trophy.

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar reached his 17000 runs mark when he was at 7 runs and went on to a greater height in his cricketing history reaching 175 runs from just 141 balls. He is the major contributor in this todays match where Australia had set a target of 351 runs.

India would have won the game easily if they had not lost Sachin or Jadeja. As the key players were out without making runs at the scoreboard, it became a tragic end for the Indian team.

Australia put an excellent show with both batting and bowling. The ODI debutant CJ Mckay slammed 3 wickets.Watson was excellent today at the Uppal with both bat and ball. He made 93 runs with bat and also obtained 3 wickets.
