Kings XI Punjab hopes to recapture magic at Jaipur

April 07, 2010 By: ab-admin Category: Cricket News, IPL 2010 - IPL 3 No Comments →

KingsXI would hope to carry the momemtum they had in kolkata when they chased down 200 easily against KKR.It is now the turn for them to meet the Rajasthan Royals at their homeground in Jaipur.

KingsXI could spoil the party of Rajasthan if they could get past the Royals and do a favour for Kolkata and Chennai. The other way if they lose, then KKR would be in a pretty bad position as they have the match against the formidable Delhi in the Second game today.

The double headers at Jaipur and Kolkata is significant as they could shuffle the points table with more permutations and combinations coming for the semifinal grouping.

Chennai bowlers set up a 24 run Victory over Mumbai

April 07, 2010 By: Track Monitor Category: IPL 2010 - IPL 3, Match Summary No Comments →

For a change Chennai Super King bowlers bowled well to contain Mumbai Indians. In the previous match in the same venue even after scoring 246, Chennai was about to lose the match thanks to some spineless bowling. But they got their act together today to restrict Mumbai Indians to less than 164.

Earlier Chennai were of to a slow start and lost M Vijay early to Harbhajan Singh in fourth over of the match, the pitch had bounce and was little slower. Suresh Raina tried to accelerate but holed out trying a pull a Bravo short ball. Finally Hayden started stroking in the company of Dhoni and the two increased the run rate to around 9 in over before both falling in the same over of Kieron Adrian Pollard in the 14 th Over. At the end of 14th over score read 119/4 with both Michael Hussey and Badrinath on nought. Both struggled to get the boundaries and it was some innovative reverse cuts and sweeps from Badrinath in the last 2 overs ensured chennai finishes with 164 on board. Chennai and everyone felt they are atleast 20 runs short from the start they had.

The second innings started with Sudeep Tyagi getting a nice away movement in the very first ball, on the other end Doug Bollinger wasnt as economical today, everytime Tyagi or Bollinger pitched it up, both Sachin and Shikar Dhawan were ready to take them to cleaners. But the Chennai Fast bowlers were much more disciplined and used the short ball to good use and preventing the Mumbai Indians from getting a flying start. Though Mumbai did not lose any wickets, their required run rate was always hovering aroung 8.5, before Sachin started cramping up and started struggling a lot.

After a short break to hydrate the very first ball of Thusara’s over consumed the wicket of Dhawan who was little early on the cut and ended up dragging the ball on to his wicket. And 2 overs later Sachin departed retired sick and the scores read 62/1 after 8.6 overs. From then it was a familiar story of late nineties Indian teams, and the Mumbai Indians fell like a deck of cards. Ambati Rayudu tried to step out against a clever Suresh Raina who shortened the length to get his man stumped.

Bravo tried to clear Tyagi over long off but instead gave a long skier for Thusara who completed a superb catch falling backwards. Then it was turn of another big hiiter Saurabh Tiwary who could get going tried to heave Shadab jakati over Mathew Hayden in the inner circle, but instead gave him a dolly. Pollard was next to go producing the catch of the match by Murali Vijay who avoided collission with Thusara to complete a neat catch. From then it was no turning back, visibly tired Sachin returned to join Harbhajan after 8th wicket, but wasnt able to do much with the Require rate howering around 15 runs per over.

For Chennai the spinners Ashwin ,Tyagi, Raina and Shadab Jakati bowled tight. Thusara wasn’t giving anything away but the wet ball in the end ensure he bowled two beamers, and had to be removed from bowling his last 3 balls. Funnily Doug Bollinger had the  worst economy rate on a day when  all other bowlers bowled well.

Sachin meets Saraswathi Vaidyanathan his seniormost fan

April 06, 2010 By: Track Monitor Category: IPL 2010 - IPL 3, Player News No Comments →

On Monday Sachin met one of his fans, but whats special here is Saraswathi Vaidyanathan is 87 year old and has been following Sachin’s every move ever since he made his debut as a shy 16 year old. Saraswati who has been following generations of cricket thanks to her late husband’s enthusiasm for the game.

Saraswathi has stored notes of sachin’s every innings in bits of papers and has collected memorabilia of major events in his career and life. In her son’s words Sachin is the life tonic for his Mother. Saraswathi’s  story appeared few days ago in Hindu’s article. And when a reporter brought the news to Sachin, Sachin was more than eager to meet his disciple. As humble as he ever is he  sought her blessings and Saraswathi wished him he should score 100 centuries in international cricket.

With such a good emotional story the match between CSK and Mumbai Indians assumes much importance for the Chennai Super Kings, most chennai fans wouldn’t mind Sachin scoring a blistering fifty in a losing cause.

IPL 2010 turning out to be level playing field

March 27, 2010 By: ab-admin Category: Cricket News, IPL 2010 - IPL 3 No Comments →

The Trend and pattern of this year’s IPL would make it a bigger, brighter and bolder hit and would become the talk of the Media and BCCI bigwigs once it ends with the tournament semifinals and finals at Mumbai.Mumbai Indians are doing well this season as they are now at the top of the tree among the 8 teams and the way they are shaping up in the league matches and with a strong crowd support,it seems that they are highly likely to get to the semifinals. And this should add more crowd to the already expected full houses in semifinals and final.
Delhi Daredevils beating Bangalore and the yesterday’s Rajasthan win against Deccan chargers, who seemed like gaining momentum has now brought the IPL to a more level playing field.Chennai,Punjab and Kolkata are the teams that need to play the catchup cricket to bring more spice and competitiveness at the pretty long league stage of this tournament.
Rajasthan Royals who looked hopeless in their opening matches have won three matches in a row and its quite surprising, how with much depleted personnel and no big stars this team has been coming back from behind in all the three tournament and giving a real run for the money to all top teams.
Yesterday’s win against Deccan Chargers all but confirms one fact that if the pitch is low, slow and turning like a typical indian wicket at the end of the season,Then Royals always seems to have the extra edge in their attack going against any team.Oh boy did yusuf pack a punch with 8 sixes and he made the match a no contest by winning the match around 15th over itself. This made sure that they have now moved to the third position in the points table.Royals have a very definite chance of making to the finals with their clear advantage at home where they can beat any team with high chances.Warne bowled with a purpose ,Tait with the real speed and his fullness of length and the Indian contingent is shaping up nicely in their backyard for the Royals.Let’s hope they keep this run going which would only add excitement to the already available flavour.

Can Jacques Kallis make RCB go one better this time at IPL 2010?

March 23, 2010 By: Track Monitor Category: IPL 2010 - IPL 3 No Comments →

After two weeks of Intense cricket among mostly balanced teams,IPL 2010 looks to be going to
neck close finish at the end of the first round of matches.with Rajasthan Royals opening their account with a win against kolkata in a clinical fashion and Kings XI punjab winning a humdinger against Chennai in a match that went the only way for a chennai win till the 30 overs of the match.
With all the teams getting equal as the initial momentum gained by Kolkata and Delhi brought down in the last week of the IPL,the Points table is bound to be more volatile and lots of permutations and combinations are going to come in the next few weeks.
The One team which has the services of Mr.Consistent Kallis are right now looking an inch ahead of all team with their balance as well as with the South African Allrounder. He is the Orange Cap holder for most runs and he is way ahead second placed sehwag at this point of time. And the Icing point on the cake is that his 265 runs have come without getting out in all the 4 Innings he played as a opener.Copybook Cricketing Shots combined with Muscle power is the hallmark of all his innings and it has proved wrong that he is too aged for Twenty20 and also T20 is not all about slam banging the ball.
To add to all the above,he has bowled some crucial spells with the ball getting 4 wickets and bowling 15 overs in a quoto of 16 overs for 4 matches is itself a speaking point that he is also such a vital member of RCB’s bowling arsenal.
It is quite a surprise that this guy with multidimensional capabilities was left out of the Inaugaral T20 worldcup and that too at his homeland in south africa.Boy didn’t the southafricans miss him during the Supersix tie against India when they were knocked out by a huge margin.

Gambhir to lead Delhi Daredevils

September 22, 2009 By: Spunky Category: Champions League T20, IPL 2010 - IPL 3, Player News No Comments →

Gautam Gambhir will lead Delhi Daredevils in the next month’s Champions League Twenty 20 and also the captain for IPL 2010 with Dinesh Karthik as his Deputy. This decision has been taken as Virender Sehwag stepped down from captaincy wanting to focus on his batting. Sehwag is currently recovering from a shoulder injury and is not included in the Champions Trophy that begins in South Africa on Tuesday.
Sehwag said “I would like to thank GMR [the Delhi franchise owners] for their understanding in accepting my request to step down. Personally, I would like to concentrate on my own batting and contribute to the team.”
The 30-year-old Sehwag welcomed the franchise’s decision to appoint Gambhir as his replacement as he felt his long-time Delhi and India opening partner had shown great leadership abilities in the past. Gambhir has an aggressive and thinking mind and brought the same attributes to his captaincy when Delhi won the Ranji Trophy under his leadership in 2007, and during the second edition of the IPL, when he was in charge during the few games that Sehwag sat out.
