The curse of the twitter : End of Lalit Modi

April 27, 2010 By: Track Monitor Category: Editorial No Comments →

The curse of the tweet has caught up with Shahsi Tharoor and Lalit Modi. Tharoor has been a tweet happy guy ever since he was drafted into the Manmohan Singh Government. With the increased popularity and an imparted image of a modern politician, Tharoor wanted to tweet from everywhere from restrooms or while running to catch a flight.

The adulation he receieved from the Indian younger generation sent him on a coalition course with less tech savvy politicians. From his comments of Cattle Class on austerity drive to commenting on policy announcements on Government, Sashi Tharoor was always one strike away from red carded.

On the other end Lalit Modi started the profitable business from BCCI, though it wasnt as original or as new, he had the ability think out of the box to make it a huge commercial success. Modi knew the knack of attracting Big business houses into IPL and at times we were wondering if IPL was created for the audience or the corporate bosses. Lalit Modi never had a clean image earlier, Be it getting arrested for cocaine possession, or kidnapping charges or his murky deals in Rajashtan.

But one thing he always had was backing from Big Business houses and politicians. With the success of IPL he went on a powertrip, Sharad Pawar was his godfather in politics andVijay Mallya and Mukesh Ambani did the same from coporate world.

But with all the Glam Sham both these twitterers were getting, it was destined that both their careers would be screwed by a tweet. And it was from Lalit Modi trying to bring to the fore ownership details of Kochi IPL franchise, but what Lalit Modi was thinking when he twittered this information isnt clear.
Maybe he did in a fit of anger or maybe he thought he can do it because he had information.Could be that Modi was irritated he couldn’t get a franchise for his close friend Dhoot (Videocon Chairman) or maybe he wanted to irritate Shashi Tharoor.

Being a twitterer himself Tharoor wasnt backing in the fight, he started ponting out Modi’s past and also pressure on their franchise to backout. The first wicket was Shashi Tharoor, thanks to opposition and media. But then when you fight with ruling party results usually wont favor you, BCCI team who have been rubbed the wrong way more than once by Modi, came out publically reprimanding Modi. And Congress pressured Pawar to back down his support for Lalit Modi. Once Pawar was told that if Modi falls, Pawar or his party wouldn’t be disturbed, Pawar had to give in.

Now our hero Lalit Modi doesnt have his allies to protect him.. though he gave a sentimental speech on the IPL3 finals and also quoted Bagavat Gita. Of all the wrong doings he has done over years.. its just that one Tweet which ended a small but this controversial saga.

Mumbai Indians Wait for Semi Spot as Punjab Wins

April 10, 2010 By: ab-admin Category: Cricket News, IPL 2010 - IPL 3 No Comments →

The trend continues again as the bottom placed Punjab wins against the table toppers Mumbai Indians. It should be another anxious wait for the Mumbai who would have sealed one spot of the semifinals lineup.

Punjab might earn the tag of real party spoilers if they perform the same way in their remaining matches.Mumbai Indians batted first and made below par 154 on the board with contributions from Duminy(35),Rayudu(33) and Tendulkar(29).For Punjab Chawla took the bowling honours with a spell of3/24 in his 4 overs and Pathan supported him well with 3/29 in his 4 overs
KingsXI Punjab with 5 changes from the previous match made a solid start as Adrian Barath(31) of West Indies and Jayawardena(33) posted decent cameos. Then it was the turn of the captain to score half century(56) and guide Punjab home as they reached the target in 19.2 overs.

Bruised Bangalore takes on Kolkata as Chennai Superkings faces Deccan Chargers

April 10, 2010 By: ab-admin Category: Cricket News, IPL 2010 - IPL 3 No Comments →

Bangalore seems to have lost the momentum as they have lost against Delhi and Deccan in a row and it seems the problem is more with the bowling than the batting.
Their batting looks far enviable with White and Taylor sandwiched between the Indians Uthappa and Kohli who are also in fine form.Though they start sedately in all matches they end up with huge scores with this firing lineup.Kolkata are on a fine momentum with Dada fit to play.
Chennai plays Deccan at Nagpur in the 4 PM match and as Dhoni rightly put across.Though it is an away game, the 4 PM start and 40 degree climate is more of advantage to Chennai than to Deccan.Chennai can take Deccan out of the Semis equation if they can win over here but it looks like all the 4 teams who are taking the park, there seems to no real favourites or underdogs

Mumbai look to grab semis first spot

April 09, 2010 By: ab-admin Category: Cricket News, IPL 2010 - IPL 3 No Comments →

Mumbai takes on Kings XI punjab at Mohali today at 8 PM IST.Mumbai would look to book the first berth for the Semifinals spot as punjab would like to be the party spoilers.
It is highly unlikely as per the form books for punjab to win but seeing the pattern of the match results in the last 2 weeks of the IPL where the least favourite team ends at the right side of the result, anything is possible.

Punjab looked down and out against Rajasthan with their results showing in their faces and Sangakkara has a hard task at hand.Nobody would feel happy if they lose all the remaining 4 matches where huge pride is at stake. If punjab wins Mumbai, then there is nothing more remaining to juice up the competition since no body would be assured of semifinal spot and all 7 teams can make or break at the final hurdle of this IPL.
Hope Tendulkar remains in the sidelines to boost punjab’s chances and it does nothing but adding more attraction to the already tough competition

RCB which looked the second best team of the tournament now finds itself in a quandry as they lost comprehensively to Deccan Chargers by 7 wickets.Bangalore posted 184 which looked competitive. They did so with contributions from Kallis(68),Kohli(58) and two huge sixes of the last two balls by White.

Deccan while chasing looked to be on the pedal from the start with Gilchrist making a cameo of 32 runs. And at 98/3 Suman and Symonds combined to take the Deccan home easily. Both were unbeaten as Suman hit 78 off 57 balls and Symonds blasted 53 off 24 balls.

Royal farewell for the Kings

April 08, 2010 By: ab-admin Category: Cricket News, IPL 2010 - IPL 3 No Comments →

Rajasthan Royals bashed the Kings XI punjab and crashed all the mathematical calculations of Tom Moody, the Punjab coach that they are still with a chance of making to the semifinals.
It was all one way traffic after the 12th over of the Punjab innings when they last Jayawardena(44) and Yuvraj(28) in the same over by Dole. They were moving briskly at 108 but lost wickets in heap to fold up for a meagre 153 runs with Dole and Trivedi picking up 2 wickets each.

Rajasthan started in a hurried fashion with Michael Lumb of England scoring 83 off mere 43 balls and blasted Sreesanth and Powar out of the attack.

The KingsXI fielding went from bad to worse to pathetic as the Royals reached the target in 15 overs with a huge boost to their net run rate and putting them in third place in the points table

IPL 2010 turning out to be level playing field

March 27, 2010 By: ab-admin Category: Cricket News, IPL 2010 - IPL 3 No Comments →

The Trend and pattern of this year’s IPL would make it a bigger, brighter and bolder hit and would become the talk of the Media and BCCI bigwigs once it ends with the tournament semifinals and finals at Mumbai.Mumbai Indians are doing well this season as they are now at the top of the tree among the 8 teams and the way they are shaping up in the league matches and with a strong crowd support,it seems that they are highly likely to get to the semifinals. And this should add more crowd to the already expected full houses in semifinals and final.
Delhi Daredevils beating Bangalore and the yesterday’s Rajasthan win against Deccan chargers, who seemed like gaining momentum has now brought the IPL to a more level playing field.Chennai,Punjab and Kolkata are the teams that need to play the catchup cricket to bring more spice and competitiveness at the pretty long league stage of this tournament.
Rajasthan Royals who looked hopeless in their opening matches have won three matches in a row and its quite surprising, how with much depleted personnel and no big stars this team has been coming back from behind in all the three tournament and giving a real run for the money to all top teams.
Yesterday’s win against Deccan Chargers all but confirms one fact that if the pitch is low, slow and turning like a typical indian wicket at the end of the season,Then Royals always seems to have the extra edge in their attack going against any team.Oh boy did yusuf pack a punch with 8 sixes and he made the match a no contest by winning the match around 15th over itself. This made sure that they have now moved to the third position in the points table.Royals have a very definite chance of making to the finals with their clear advantage at home where they can beat any team with high chances.Warne bowled with a purpose ,Tait with the real speed and his fullness of length and the Indian contingent is shaping up nicely in their backyard for the Royals.Let’s hope they keep this run going which would only add excitement to the already available flavour.

Mumbai Man’s Mastery hands CSK its third defeat in a row

March 26, 2010 By: ab-admin Category: Cricket News, IPL 2010 - IPL 3 No Comments →

There was deafening roar in the packed Braboune Stadium in the Second Innings of the Mumbai Vs CSK match. It was not a scoring of a century, double or triple by any player or a match turnaround catch or an electric fielding.
It was just Mumbai’s own man Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar taking guard on nought for the second ball of the innings.Such is the renewed gloss of this man for the past few months when he has literally machined his run making skills.Yesterday it was another prime example of so near yet so far thought for the Chennai super kings. After making a very good 180,the match never looked like getting close in the Second innings with Sachin and Shikar Dhawan blasting their way to a near century partnership(92 runs) in around 9 overs. And whenever it looked like a pressure was nearly building up Sachin would open it up with a classical copy book boundary shots.
CSK is learning it the hard way in this tournament where their batters and bowlers have never clicked in unison and its the bowlers turn yesterday to suffer at the hands of Mumbai Indians.Though the idea was good to draft in Jakati along with Murali as their was some turn in the pitch, but the match was lost way before these 2 bowlers could be brought into the attack.CSK has been steadily going downwards in the table and they have to pull up their socks for their second round of the tournament with only match of its first round left against the Rajasthan Royals. In the other match of the day,Delhi stopped the winning march of Bangalore with a clinical performance and Lalit Modi would have been the happiest man as now yesterday’s results have left the table wide open and all 8 teams have a chance to progress to the semifinals going into the second round of the tournament

RCB Jaggernaut rolling

March 25, 2010 By: ab-admin Category: Cricket News, IPL 2010 - IPL 3 No Comments →

Is Delhi skilled enough to stop the RCB Jaggernaut rolling?
The most consistent and the allround team of IPL 2010 was surprisingly RCB and it looks that they would always go from strength to strength with their batters and bowlers form list getting new entries with every match.Steyn,Praveen,Vinay along with kallis provides the most well oiled seam attack of the lot and to add the batting skills of Praveen and Vinay along with the Mr.batsman of IPL,Kallis this list is looked upon with more envy by all.Kumble is getting his loop back and in this backyard they look doubly dangerous as the pitch in bangalore offers more pace, bounce and to a certain extent spin. The most thought fact is still the pitch is extremely good for stroke makers and a wild imagination of test match happening on this pitch would bring more fun and joy for cricket pundits.
Delhi on the other hand in the same league as chennai with 2 wins from 5 matches and more importantly losing 3 matches in a row requires some sort of dream innings from sehwag, warner or dilshan.Inspite of Karthik doing well with the bat they some how do not seem to click enough in their death bowling as well with the batting. With Nehra and Gambhir out of the reckoning in this match, they have a very spirited and royally challenging bangalore in their backyard and Indeed it is a tough nut to crack.
Can Bangalore make it 5 out of 5 wins which is the most possible result with every member of their team going strong and in bangalore they get down with 12 members as the crowd gets jampacked at the Chinnaswamy stadium and brings in the aura to the RCB.
